Why Support Sounds of the Zoo?

Your support powers the music & the artists who bring it to life.

MORE THAN A FESTIVAL Sounds of the Zoo is more than a week of music—it’s a year-round, community-powered movement that brings people together through live music, culture, and shared experience. From ongoing programming to our free annual festival, everything we do is made possible by community support. 💡 WHY YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS 🎵 It’s Free & Community-Driven Sounds of the Zoo is completely free and open to all—no tickets, no barriers. That accessibility exists because of donors, sponsors, and community partners who believe music should belong to everyone. 🌆 A Week-Long Celebration of Music & Culture Each September, downtown Kalamazoo transforms into a living music experience—featuring around 50 performances across multiple venues and public spaces. 🎸 A Diverse Musical Experience From indie and jazz to hip-hop, Latin, and beyond, the festival showcases a wide range of Michigan and regional artists. It’s not just a lineup—it’s a discovery experience. 🤝 Built on Inclusion & Connection People of all ages and backgrounds are welcome. We’re grounded in values of diversity, inclusion, mental health awareness, and environmental responsibility—using music to bring people together. 🎓 Education & Industry Access Workshops, panels, and hands-on learning opportunities give artists and fans alike a deeper connection to music, sound, and the industry. 🎉  Unique Events & Local Stories From documentary premieres to street parades and spontaneous performances, Sounds of the Zoo celebrates the stories and spirit of Kalamazoo. 📈  Strengthening the Local Music Economy Every performance and gathering supports local venues, artists, and businesses—helping grow Kalamazoo as a vibrant music city. 🎶 Year-Round Impact Sounds of the Zoo doesn’t stop when the festival ends.
